Alright, we’ve got this, we’ve learned this in physics class. So, according to Newton’s Second Law, as we shoot, there is a force acting on the ball, and that is F = ma, and when we release the ball, there is an equal and opposite force moving in the opposite direction. So, this means along with the velocity that the ball is encountering, there is also a spin coming from the friction of our hands. Anyway — according to my calculations — I’m standing right now in the free-throw position, and from this position, the best angle is going to be a 51-degree angle and that is because it is going to create a higher arc which will potentially also create a bigger target when the ball touches the goal.
